One of, if not the, most powerful prog rock albums of all time is In the Court of the Crimson King by the legendary British band King Crimson. This was their first album, released in 1969 and quickly laid the body of rock music out on its face with a very heavy and impressive sound that’s been often imitated but never quite duplicated. Critics have called this album the strongest in the prog rock genre and it shows in this release, too. While it has been re-mastered a great many times, this 2009 deluxe edition definitely threatens to be one of the very best giving hard core fans and true audiophiles something amazing to cherish.
As the second release in this 40th Anniversary series, we get 5.1 surround sound and a wide variety of other variations of the recordings so you really can choose your favorite way to listen to In the Court of the Crimson King. With standard CD stereo, LPCM stereo, MPL loseless stereo, DTS 5.1 surround and MLP lossless 5.1 surround, you are going to have a hay day if you love listening to the variations that technology can create in the music we listen to. And really, could there be a better album to have all of these options for? Even Pete Townshend from The Who has publicly stated that he believes this album is a true Sixties masterpiece. As far as great packaging, you get a whole lot with this deluxe edition so if you are planning to really get a great collector’s piece from legendary rockers King Crimson, you absolutely cannot go wrong by selecting this album.
